How to Make a “Silent Hill” Nurse Costume

“Silent Hill” is a survival horror video game made by Konami. One of the main monsters in all “Silent Hill” games is the demon nurse. You can make your own demon nurse costume, complete with the stained, blood-splattered dress and shoes and a twisted, mutilated face.

1

Pin the nurse dress pattern onto the fabric. Cut the fabric according to the pattern. Pin the dress pieces together and sew according to the pattern. Remember, “Silent Hill” nurses have low-cut necklines and no pockets. Cut out and sew your nurse’s hat out of the fabric.
2

Fill the bucket with hot water. Put eight tea bags in the water and let them seep until the water is dark brown. To create stained spots and dark patches on the nurse’s dress, cut a slit in a tea bag, wrap it in a part of the dress fabric and slip a rubber band over it to hold the tea bag in place. Wrap eight tea bags in this fashion to create splashes of dark color on the front and back of the dress. Submerge the dress in the hot tea water. Soak the dress for three hours. Stir and push the fabric into the water every 30 minutes with a long-handled wooden spoon.
3

Remove the dress. Remove the tea bags from the dress. Keep all the wet tea bags and pour out the water. Wring out the dress. Place the hem of the dress back into the bucket, along with four wet tea bags in places that need to look more soiled. Fold the dress down in layers, adding tea bags to each one. Pour hot water over the dress. Let the dress soak for two hours, adding more hot water every half-hour.
4

Ring out the dress and hang it up to dry. Blot the shoes with sopping wet tea bags to create stains.
5

Paint gore onto your nurse costume by mixing red, brown and black acrylic paint in disposable plastic cups. Make four different shades to represent dirt and dried blood; the variation of color will help it appear more lifelike. Thin the paint with water. Use a paint brush to splatter the four different shades of paint all over the nurse costume. Splatter paint onto the nurse’s hat and stained shoes.

Demon Nurse Mask

6

Cover the entire dummy head with plastic wrap. Pour 1 cup white latex and 10 cups water into a bucket and stir. Unroll the toilet paper and submerge it in the diluted latex. Twist the wet toilet paper into ropey strips. Wrap the toilet paper around the head, laying the strips on at a downward angle. Cover the head evenly, leaving a space around the eyes and an opening over the mouth. Lay the dummy head on its back and let it sit for two days.
7

Mix dark red and tan oil paint. Add an oil paint thinner to make it watery. Paint the face mask with a thin layer of red and tan paint. The watery paint will flow over the crevasses on the masks’s surface. Wait one hour for the paint to dry. Thin a quarter-sized dab of green oil paint until it is watery. Paint green along the edges of big sunken-in or holey patches of the mask. Add oil paint thinner to a quarter-sized dab of light yellow paint. Brush light yellow along the tops of the layers of toilet paper that stick out the most.
8

Mix together tan and white oil paint. Paint over the higher surfaces of the face mask. Brush on a small amount of dark red and tan around the deep pockets to make them look like wounds. Blend the colors together on the mask’s surface with the end of your paintbrush. Dilute a mixture of dark tan and black oil paint. Dab the paint onto the sunken areas of the mask. Drybrush the diagonal lines with light yellow paint. Wait 24 hours for the oil paint to dry.
9

Brush a layer of white latex over the entire mask . The oil paint will make some of the liquid latex pool up, and that’s OK. Dip a paper towel into the liquid latex and dab it onto the sunken areas or places where it is pooling up to spread it out. Let the mask sit 48 hours or until it is completely dry.
